The manufacturing sector in Colombia is a dynamic and growing sector that represents an important contribution to the country's economy. In 2022, represented 82.7% of the value added of the industrial sector, generating over 2 million direct jobs.
Its most relevant subsectors are:
- Chemicals and plastics: represents 11.7% of the value added of the manufacturing sector and includes industrial chemicals, plastics, and pharmaceutical products.
- Transportation equipment: represents 10.6% of the value added of the manufacturing sector and includes motor vehicles, motorcycles, and other transportation equipment.
- Others: represents 27.8% of the value added of the manufacturing sector and includes paper, cardboard, wood products, metals, and non-electric machinery.
The Colombian government is promoting the development of the manufacturing sector through policies and programs, such as the National Development Plan 2023-2030, which aims to increase the manufacturing sector's participation in GDP to 12% by 2030.
